Calcification

Any scar tissue inside the body can calcify. The most important mammographic indication that a cancer may exist in the breast is fine calcifications within the breast tissue. Calcium deposits can also form in the scar tissue around the implant and may cause pain, firmness and be visible on a mammography. These calcium deposits in the scar tissue are sometimes mistaken for cancer, resulting in a biopsy and or removal of the implant.
